If you are up to taking out the boat, a short distance away are the famous beaches of Fort Myers Beach and the tropical barrier islands of Sanibel and Captiva. These barrier islands are particularly famous the world over for the fine shelling and Nature Reserve of Ding Darling. Also along the shoreline is the state park of Lover's Key, rated in the Top 10 Beaches in the US on the Travel Channel.
